ISO and OCLC

Japanese Libraries communicate with OCLC via the ISO-protocol. What does that mean for us in North America? When you are submitting a request, please only enter in the library symbol once. Entering it twice will not give the Japanese Library more time, as it does in a normal transaction. As a reminder, entering a library symbol once gives the lender 4 days to respond to a request before it moves on. The ISO connection does not read a lender string the same way and therefore the Japanese Library will receive a new request if their library symbol is entered more than once. As you can imagine, this is frustrating for both the lending and borrowing library!

Japanese Libraries also cannot enter your library's OCLC symbol more than once. Please try to process GIF ILL/DD requests from Japan promptly.

日本のGIF参加館は、OCLCとのシステム間コミュニケーションをISOプロトコールを使用して行っています。北米参加館は、この点に関して、どのように対処するべきでしょうか？北米参加館が依頼を出す際には、OCLCシンボルを１館につき１度だけ入力するようにして下さい。繰り返し入力しても、日本の受付館での処理時間は長くなりません。OCLCメンバー間で行われている通常処理とは異なります。

OCLCシンボルを１度しか入力しないということは、受付館には4日間しか処理時間が与えられません。ISO接続では受付館のシンボル列をOCLCの通常処理と同じように扱わないため、シンボルの繰り返し入力を行うと入力した回数だけ新たな依頼が受付館に届くことになります。依頼館、受付館の双方にとって、嬉しいとはいえないシステムですが、覚えておいて下さい。

同様に、日本参加館が北米参加館のOCLCシンボルを繰り返し入力することもできません。GIFリクエストを受け取ったら、迅速に対応して下さい。
