Reasons for No are used to communicate the reason why a library cannot supply an item. They are standard reasons and tied to a numeric code. For example, 1 is used to indicate that an item is in use, or checked out, and not able to be sent to the requesting library. Recently, there were changes made so this information was more accurately communicated between Japanese (ISO-ILL) and North American Libraries.

リクエストの謝絶
Reason for No（謝絶理由）フィールドは、リクエストを満たせない際にその理由を説明するのに使います。よくある理由を数字化してあります。例えば、数字の１はリクエストされた資料が貸し出し中でリクエストに応じられないということを意味します。日本側でこの謝絶コードの入力を必須とするシステムの改良があったので、日本と北米のGIF参加館の間のやりとりがよりはっきりすることになりました。
